Empirical Foundations: Longitudinal Study of Organizational Change and Departmental Dynamics (NSF ADVANCE IT Program, HRD #1007978)

  • 16 STEM/SBS Departments as part of ADVANCE grant – 2011-2014
  • Perceptions of departmental conflict and dependence significant decreased while collective efficacy significantly increased
  • Humanities Department -2014 (faculty)
  • Social Science Department -2016 (Dean) extended to pre-facilitation interviews and assessment
  • Improved perceptions in working climate
  • Faculty at North Dakota State University and Montana State University – 2016
  • Be available for Campus and Off Campus Requests for group facilitations
  • Research collaborations with partner campuses to assess the impact of facilitation work within their context

Training Faculty to be Facilitators

  • Last 8 STEM/SBS Departments (2013-2014) – worked with an internal facilitation partner
  • Three day training for faculty at NDSU and Montana State University - 2016
  • 90 Minute Introduction to Facilitation on WVU campus (WLI, ADVANCE Advocates, leaders) Nov. 2016
  • Three day training for WVU people to build pool of faculty facilitators and a local community of practice
  • WVU is at the core of a network of facilitators who go to new campuses to train faculty. The trainers are from multiple institutions (i.e., an external inter-institutional group of trainers and community of practice)
  • A combination of faculty from the internal and external network offer regular training workshops at different locations and faculty from other institutions come and pay to be trained
  • Be available for Campus and Off Campus Requests for group facilitations
  • Creating a set of readings, workbook, and mentoring system for future WVU facilitators.
