Let the National Academies Summer Institute @ WVU help you:

  • transform your classroom into an active learning environment
  • improve student learning
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute and the National Academies invite college and university faculty, instructional staff, post-doctoral fellows and graduate students in STEM disciplines to develop teaching skills to transform the undergraduate classroom. The Summer Institutes on Undergraduate Education (http://www.academiessummerinstitute.org/) are 5-day professional development workshops on the best, evidence-based methods in undergraduate STEM education. Current research on active learning, assessment, and diversity are woven into the week, creating a forum to share ideas and develop innovative instructional materials to be implemented upon returning home. As a participant you will be actively engaged in workshops by leaders in the field and work in a team to develop teaching materials for use in your own classroom. Please find attached application materials. Please direct questions about the National Academies Summer Institute @ WVU to Michelle Withers (michelle.withers@mail.wvu.edu). Location: The National Academies Summer Institute @ WVU will be held on the West Virginia University campus. Date: June 3-8, 2012.
