Contextualizing your Student Perceptions of Teaching (SPoT) Workshop Series
Develop a proactive approach to support constructive and meaningful student evaluation of their learning! These synchronous, virtual or face-to-face workshops apply data analysis skills to analyze SPoT and other assessment results, develop concrete strategies to enhance learning, and share outcomes in teaching portfolio materials for annual review, promotion/tenure, job applications, award packets and more! Attendees should have access to their SPoT results and their course materials.
Past participants appreciate the supportive environment, the assistance to interpret their results, the application to meaningful change in the classroom, and information about how to concisely convey the impact of their teaching in files and applications.
Please Note: Though examples for narratives/evaluation materials are being shared, faculty should be sure to get clarity from their chairperson/director on any specific format or guidelines that the department/school expects them to follow.
Contextualizing Your SPoT Results: A hands-on session to reflect on your teaching in your annual evaluation
In this hands-on workshop, instructors will apply qualitative data analysis methods to their Student Perception of Teaching (SPoT) results. Participants will organize SPoT results and identify other sources of data to address: 1) how their teaching fills their academic unit’s mission and goals; 2) student learning grounded in the course learning outcomes; and 3) student experience of the learning environment (SPoT). Instructors can then use these key points in their teaching narratives for annual review and promotion/tenure.
Contextualizing your SPoT Results: Midterm Edition
The Midterm Edition emphasizes how to incorporate early SPoT feedback into immediate change and to track its impact quickly and efficiently through the end of the semester.Participants should sign up for the early semester course feedback (SPoT) and access the results during the session to make a plan to enhance their course by building on what works, helping students to understand their approach, and responding to student needs! Participants will explore other methods to gather quick, moment-by-moment feedback and engage students in developing a proactive learning environment.
Grades in for students: "SPOTlight's on YOU"
Bring your final SPoT results and develop materials for your annual review file in the company of others! This workshop emphasizes comparing and contrasting SPoT results across semesters to document how changes to your teaching practices impact your students.
We will also spend more time integrating qualitative (student comments) and quantitative (beneficial, neutral, not beneficial to my learning) responses. Completion of exercises from Contextualizing Your SPoT Results: A hands-on session to reflect on your teaching in your annual evaluation or Contextualizing your SPoT Results: Midterm Edition is recommended prior to attending this session.
